Who Will Buy: Big Orange Chorus at Fall Contest!

Me and (from left to right): Tim, Daniel, and Alex after we won second place!

Hello hello!

This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to compete with a talented group of individuals in our state competition for barbershop choruses! We recently attended Fall Contest at World Golf Village in Saint Augustine for the Sunshine District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. For the past few months, I've been rehearsing with the Big Orange Chorus and even officially became a member!

We prepared two songs from the movie "Oliver": Who Will Buy and Where Is Love! One of our wonderful bases, Mike, came up with a whole love story about Daniel (the director and coincidentally, my fiance) and I. In the beginning of "Oliver", there's a woman selling roses. That's who I was! I sell a rose to Daniel, who wanted to give it to me, but he lost where I was. Eventually, he builds up the courage to give me the rose and our set is complete! It got standing ovations and everyone loved it!

Me and my amazing fiance, who made his directorial debut!

We did so well that we got second place overall! I was so excited and we all jumped up and down in our seats. After everyone got announced, I immediately hugged my handsome director and told him how proud I was of him. He has been working so hard and stressing so much over this performance, and I just know that he was proud of all of the work we did! We got to enjoy the rest of the convention and even sang at the Afterglow (a little afterparty where choruses and quartets can sing for everyone at the convention!) We had an amazing time and went home super tired but also super fulfilled. I can't wait to tell you all what else the chorus is working on for the holidays!

Overall, my first competition as a BHS member was a lot of fun, and it made me realize how much I missed performing. I was able to sing in the musical theatre style that I love so much, and haven't been able to do since I started my new job. Down below are some photos of us getting ready to hear the results, hearing the results, and getting our scores! We also got to work with some of the judges on the things that they scored us on. It was an enlightening experience, and I am so thankful to be a part of such a heartwarming group of musical individuals. :)

Feeling like a champ,

Taylor.
